Knowing and understanding the historical development of an academic discipline allows us to identify more clearly its future progress. The main objective of this work is to present a brief description of the historical process experienced by the development of Soil Science in Paraguay. Methodologically, it was based on the review and investigation of bibliographic materials and interviews to national experts related to Soil Science. The historical approach includes the review and analysis of the implementation and teaching of Soil Science in Paraguay; likewise, the historical process for the installation of the first Soil Laboratories in Paraguay was reviewed, as well as the consolidation of the scientific association of Soil Science in Paraguay. As results, Soil Science education in Paraguay has made progress in the period studied; it has incorporated experts trained both in foreign universities and in Paraguayan universities; there was a substantial improvement in the quantity and quality of Soil Laboratories, responsible for facilitating studies in the country; Significant progress was also made in soil studies and in the field of the association, progress has been made with the creation and strengthening of the Paraguayan Society of Soil Science (SOPACIS).
