TOMASSI, M; AMARILLA, H; FILIPPI, J and SZWAKO, A. CLINICAL CASE REPORT: TRYPANOSOMIASIS IN SHEEP. Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2018, vol.8, n.1, pp.39-42. ISSN 2226-1761. https://doi.org/10.18004/compend.cienc.vet.2018.08.01.39-42.
In this paper is reported a clinical case of an ovine, Texel race, female, 1 year and a half old, from the city of José Falcón, Presidente Hayes Department. The reason for consultation was prostration with a weak pulse, dyspnea, with tonic contractions of the limbs. The clinical attention was made in the Veterinary Hospital, Department of Pathology and Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of Asuncion. Whole blood was extracted for microhematocrit tests and parasitological smears, which showed an infection with Trypanosoma spp. Trypanosomiasis is caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Trypanosoma and is transmitted mainly mechanically by hematophagous flies. It is suggested to carry out more epidemiological investigations of this pathology.
