Abstract

ZARATE FRUTOS, R et al. METABOLIC PROFILES IN TEXEL SHEEP IN PRESERVICE, LAST THIRD OF GESTATION AND EARLY LACTATION PERIODS . Compend. cienc. vet [online]. 2014, vol.4, n.2, pp.39-46. ISSN 2226-1761.

ABSTRACT. With the aim of obtaining preliminary reference values and evaluate the variations in the metabolic profiles of sheep in preservice , last third of gestation and early lactation, 10 primiparous Texel ewes from an establishment Atyra District, Paraguay were used. At them, were determined hematocrit, hemoglobin, serum urea, total protein, albumin, globulin, cholesterol, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium, and serum activity of aspartate aminotransferase and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase; analyzed by hematological and spectrophotometric methods. The mean hematocrit, hemoglobin, and albumin decreased during pregnancy and lactation, respectively, with statistically significant differences (p = 0.001, 0.0001 and < 0.0001) relative to preservice. Mean cholesterol, AST and GGT increased lactation relative to gestation, with statistically significant differences (p=0.02, 0.003, y 0.01). The mean calcium values decreased progressively from the preservice to lactation with statistically significant differences (p < 0.001). Analyzed the metabolic profile shows that the largest changes in blood metabolites occur at last third of gestation and early lactation, corresponding to times of increased metabolic demand.
