ALEGRE BRITEZ, Miguel Ángel; CAROSINI RUIZ-DIAZ, Ana Leticia y ACOSTA FERREIRA, Celia. Capricorn bi-oceanic corridor for logistics integration and sustainable development in Paraguay. Rev. Soc. cient. Parag. [online]. 2026, vol.31, e3114. Epub 30-Abr-2026. ISSN 0379-9123. https://doi.org/10.32480/rscp.2026.e3114.
The Bioceanic Corridor represents the most significant infrastructure project for Paraguay, a nation historically landlocked and facing profound regional asymmetry. The Western Region comprises 61% of the country's territory, yet 94% of its road network remains unpaved, a factor that limits competitiveness and social development. The main objective of this research is to analyze the potential impact of the Bioceanic Corridor's construction on Paraguay in terms of international trade, infrastructure, and logistics. Using a qualitative and documentary approach, based on technical reports from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) and international organizations, the study demonstrates that the construction of the Bioceanic Bridge and Route PY15 will reduce access to Asian markets by up to fifteen days. The results highlight Paraguay's transformation int o a strategic hub and the optimization of meat and agricultural exports. The study concludes that, to maximize this impact, it is imperative for the government to digitize customs processes and promote private investment in the agribusiness sector. In this way, the country will consolidate a sustainable development model that integrates the western region into global value chains.
