Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify potential ecotypes of Erythrina edulis through morphological and nutritional characterization at two altitudinal gradients in Ancash, Peru, during 2024. The research was conducted in Carhuaz (2785 m asl) and Yungay (2510 m asl). The design was descriptive-analytical, cross-sectional, and quasi-experimental, using a Randomized Complete Block Design. Three productive trees per area were evaluated, along with five random samples of leaves and fruits per tree. Twenty- one morphological and nutritional variables were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and standard deviation), analysis of variance, and Tukey's test (α=0.05), as well as the Chi-square test for categorical variables. The hypothesis of ecotypic differentiation associated with altitude was proposed. Of the variables evaluated, only iron (Fe) content showed significant differences between zones (p<0.05), with a higher concentration in fruits from Carhuaz, corroborated by soil analysis. No statistical significance was found for more than 60 % of the variables, therefore no distinct ecotypes were identified. It is concluded that the observed variab ility corresponds to specific nutritional differences and not to altitudinal ecotypic differentiation.
