Abstract

MENDOZA LEIVA, Diego E. Gabriel; BOGADO CACERES, Miguel; AMARILLA MERCADO, Diosnel  and  MAIDANA CHAVEZ, Ever M.. Agronomic and economic evaluation of the combined use of green manures and npk doses in the cultivation of yerba mate (ilex paraguariensis). Rev. Soc. cient. Parag. [online]. 2026, vol.31, e3109.  Epub Mar 29, 2026. ISSN 0379-9123.  https://doi.org/10.32480/rscp.2026.e3109.

Nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK) are essential for plant development, while green manures provide benefits to the soil. This study evaluated the agronomic and economic effects of combining green manures with different NPK fertilizer doses in yerba mate cultivation. The experiment was conducted in Francisco Caballero Álvarez, Canindeyú, in a 10-year-old yerba mate plantation, using a randomized complete block design with 2x4 subplots. Treatments with and without green manure application were evaluated, combined with NPK doses of 0, 100, 200, and 300 kg ha⁻¹. The amount and length of sprouting varied according to the NPK dose, while weed cover was lower in the green manure treatments. Yield and economic benefits were higher when green manures were combined with the 300 kg ha⁻¹ NPK dose. In conclusion, planting green manures reduces weed cover, applying 300 kg ha⁻¹ of NPK promotes the development and production of yerba mate, and combining both factors maximizes the economic benefits obtained.
