Abstract

This study presents the synthesis of copper oxide nanoparticles (NPsCuO) employing the chemical precipitation method, with emphasis on product characterization by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The nanoparticles exhibited a hemispherical morphology with an average diameter of 124 nm, as observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD analysis confirmed the formation of a monoclinic phase, with a mean crystallite size of ~22 nm. Rietveld refinement (Chi² = 1.2) and visualization with VESTA revealed a Cu-O distance of 1.96 Å and bond angles of 60.67° and 154.57°. XPS analysis showed Cu 2p₃/₂ (~942.7 eV) and Cu 2p₁/₂ (~962.7 eV) peaks, characteristic of the Cu²⁺ state in CuO. The results confirm the effectiveness of the method to obtain NPsCuO of high purity.
