CANESE-DE ESTIGARRIBIA, Marta Isabel et al. Critical Thinking in Teacher Training: Current Advancesand Challenges in Paraguay. Estud. parag. [online]. 2025, vol.43, n.2, pp.97-114. ISSN 0251-2483. https://doi.org/10.47133/respy43-25-2-2a-05.
Critical thinking is an essential competency for education professionals, but it has been neglected and resisted in Latin America for long periods of its history. In Paraguay, the development of critical thinking in teacher training has made significant progress in recent years. The purpose of this study was to analyze programs and courses aimed at strengthening critical thinking in teacher training processes in Paraguay through an integrated literature review. The theoretical foundation of the research is framed within critical pedagogy, which seeks the intellectual autonomy of teachers through the development of critical thinking skills and dispositions. The sources used include books, scientific articles, and official open-access documents. The results obtained indicate that critical thinking has been formally absent from teacher training courses until 2022, when a specific program aimed at teacher trainers will be launched. However, it has been informally present in the practices of many Paraguayan teacher trainers.
