PAGE, Carlos A.. Patron saint festivities in the Jesuit reductions of Paraguay. Between the solemnity, the feast and the games. Estud. parag. [online]. 2025, vol.43, n.1, pp.143-172. ISSN 0251-2483.  https://doi.org/10.47133/respy43-25-1-1a-06.

The festivals in the Jesuit reductions of Paraguay were closely linked to religious celebrations and served as key moments to express the cultural values sustaining communal life. This study focuses primarily on the ceremonies of the patronal feast and the involvement of its participants within a society deeply rooted in religious practice, where the festivity emerges as a reaffirmation of collective identity. Through the analysis of descriptive records, we examine the symbolic contents and allegorical significance of these practices. The festivities materialized as ephemeral cultural elements-framed in arches, altars, body painting, as well as dances, music, and games-marked by distinctive features, where the town’s patron figure becomes a dominant symbol of cohesion and shared identity.
