LOPEZ BENITEZ, Ramón; RODAS GARAY, Sonia Noemí  e  GONZALEZ BENITEZ, Fabio Jonás. University scholarships: experiences of its protagonists. Estud. parag. [online]. 2025, vol.43, n.1, pp.3-25. ISSN 0251-2483.  https://doi.org/10.47133/respy43-25-1-1a-02.

This research aimed to describe the experiences of young people from the department of Caaguazú during their participation in the 2022 ITAIPU undergraduate scholarship award process. A qualitative study with a phenomenological approach was conducted, using semi-structured interviews with 13 young people who participated in the ITAIPU scholarship application and evaluation process. The results revealed that students experienced predominantly positive emotions during the process, although with moments of stress, especially during evaluations. Participants' academic performance was characterized by a self-directed approach and the efficient use of institutional resources. The opportunity to access the scholarship proved to be highly relevant to participants, not only as financial support but also as a validation of their academic aspirations. Participants developed significant organizational, perseverance, and time management skills, considering the process generally fair and transparent. It is concluded that the ITAIPU scholarship program plays a crucial role in democratizing access to higher education in Paraguay, particularly for young people from low-income families, contributing significantly to their educational trajectories and personal development.
