Abstract
CHENU ORREGO, Martha Elizabeth and ROLON, Violeta. Role of the University in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2025, vol.12, n.2, pp.33-47. ISSN 2409-8752. https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2025.012.02.033.
This study examined the role of a public university in promoting Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which advocates for inclusive, equitable and quality education. Higher education institutions have an essential influence on the advancement of the SDGs, and in this context, the university faces the challenge of integrating these principles into its management and governance. This research seeks to generate concrete data on the implementation of these goals, which could serve as a basis for proposing a model for the insertion of the SDGs in other institutions, with potential local and global impact. Its main objective is to analyze how a university promotes SDG 4 through its management policies and practices. Using a qualitative approach, the research was based on documentary analysis of strategic plans, regulations and policies, complemented by semi-structured interviews with key actors and observation. The findings show that the university studied has integrated the SDGs into its strategic documents and promotes inclusive and equitable education policies. Good practices are highlighted, such as scholarship programs and the elimination of fees to facilitate access to education, as well as the consolidation of university extension as a tool for sustainable development. In addition, the study identifies aspects that still need to be worked on to ensure a lasting and effective implementation of SDG 4.
