Upper gastrointestinal bleeding can present as a medical-surgical emergency that must be treated early due to its high morbidity and mortality rates. It includes bleeding from the esophagus, stomach, or proximal duodenum. Common causes are peptic ulcer, esophagitis, esophageal varices, and gastritis.
We present the case of a 70-year-old man who consulted for epigastric pain and melena. Digestive endoscopy detected a peptic ulcer, and due to his poor hemodynamic status, he required multiple transfusions. Biopsy confirmed H. pylori.
