[online]. 2026, vol.13, n.1, e13122601. Epub 29-Dic-2025. ISSN 2312-3893. https://doi.org/10.18004/rvspmi/2312-3893/2026.e13122601.
Introduction:
The study of medical semiology is essential for training competent and empathetic physicians capable of providing quality care. Student satisfaction and the development of their skills through semiological education are key indicators of the success of their education.
Objectives:
To establish the level of satisfaction and semiological knowledge of students attending the rotating internship program in public hospitals in Alto Paraná, Paraguay, in 2024.
Methods:
An observational, cross-sectional, descriptive-correlational study was conducted. The study included 232 students who completed their internships in public hospitals. Sampling was non-probabilistic of consecutive cases. A measurement instrument was validated and then applied in the form of questionnaires to measure sociodemographic data, level of satisfaction with teaching, and level of semiological knowledge.
Results:
Of the total, 56.5% were female, the mean age was 31 ± 7 years; 83.6% were Brazilian, and 90.5% belonged to private universities. A total of 57.3% were satisfied with the semiological education received; 57.8% with the academic training of their teachers, and 55.6% with the knowledge acquired. In relation to the level of semiological knowledge, 4.3% had a low level, 46.6% had an average level, and 49.1% had a high level. A correlation was identified between the level of knowledge and age, university of origin, and number of teaching strategies.
Conclusions:
Most students report being satisfied with the teaching of medical semiology. There was an acceptable level of knowledge, but in a low proportion, and interactive teaching methods can improve the level of knowledge in semiology.
