AQUINO, Silvia Rosa; FIGUEREDO-CANOSA, Victoria  y  GAZQUEZ-HERNANDEZ, Juan Fco.. The Theory of Social Representations as a Mirror of Education: A Look at the Meaning of School in the Rural Context. Rev. Int. Investig. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2025, vol.21, n.2, pp.261-276. ISSN 2226-4000.  https://doi.org/10.18004/riics.2025.diciembre.261.

This doctoral research focuses on analyzing the Social Representations of primary school students in rural contexts regarding the meaning of school and its influence on knowledge construction processes. The rural school proposes a specific modality that requires spaces for democratization, where children actively participate in their learning. The general objective is to analyze how these representations affect the construction of knowledge. Specific objectives include: identifying the representations about the importance of school, describing their relationship with learning, and understanding the value that students assign to knowledge as a path to social progress. Methodologically, an introspective, experiential, symbolic-interpretative, and hermeneutic epistemological approach is adopted, within a naturalistic paradigm. The qualitative, inductive, and exploratory study is carried out as field research, with a multi-case phenomenological-constructivist design. Data collection is done through interviews with students, questionnaires for teachers and parents, classroom observation, analysis of school interactions, evaluation instances, and review of pedagogical documents. The findings show that students value school mainly from an affective perspective and as a path toward university. However, a disconnect between theory and practice is noted, as the basic knowledge mentioned does not guarantee the necessary preparation. This highlights the need to rethink teacher training, orienting it toward reflective and transformative proposals that promote a comprehensive, critical education committed to social justice.
