BARRETO BENITEZ, Karina Beatriz. Young people who do not study or work in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay. Period 2016 – 2022. Poblac.Desarro. [online]. 2026, vol.32, n.62, pp.30-43. ISSN 2076-0531. https://doi.org/10.18004/pdfce/2076-054x/2026.032.62.030.
The situation of young people who do not study or work could be problematic for the economies of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay because it would represent a loss for human capital that would prevent the potential output of the labor force from being reached. It is perceived that these young people were forgotten by the system, since traditionally families took care of them as best they could. However, these are not isolated cases that should be dealt with only by families, when solutions can also emerge from government and business spaces. For this reason, the general objective of the research was to describe the situation of young people who did not study or work in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and Uruguay during the period 2016 – 2022. The methodology was quantitative with a documentary bibliographic design, where analytical-synthetic, inductive and statistical methods were used to reach the exploratory and descriptive level. The most important results indicated that, on average, 15.9% of young people in the countries analyzed did not study or work during the period 2016 – 2022. In addition, through the chi-square test, it was indicated that there was an association between the area of housing and gender in several of the countries analyzed. Finally, through the homogeneity test, it was concluded that the reasons for youth inactivity varied between countries, so the underlying realities and causes of each country should be studied separately.
