In this work, the social structure of the Guairá - Caazapá region is characterized from a historical perspective, and it is analyzed the incidence of some factors that conditioned it. These underwent important mutations responding to the modalities of the development of the social formation of the liberal republic first and that of the soybean enclave later. The hypothesis indicates that the changes in the agrarian structure did not affect the subordinate role of the peasantry or the very marked asymmetries in the relations with other actors. The temporal unit of analysis starts from the 20s of the last century and reaches the 70s. Secondary data, semi-structured interviews and life stories are used. The perspective used places emphasis on the peasantry, which in the considered contexts remained a subaltern actor in the relations of domination in which it was inserted.
