Introduction:

attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a disorder characterized by the lack of ability to maintain attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity; it appears early in childhood and in some cases persists into adulthood.

Objective:

to determine the frequency of symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in residents of the Internal Medicine postgraduate program at the Centro Médico Nacional-Hospital Nacional, in 2024.

Methodology:

descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study, with consecutive case sampling. Resident physicians from the Internal Medicine postgraduate program at the Centro Médico Nacional-Hospital Nacional in 2024 were included, and those physicians who did not respond to the questionnaire were excluded. For the diagnosis of ADHD, the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale v.1.1. questionnaire was used.

Results:

87 participants were studied from a population of 90 residents, of which 3 residents who met exclusion criteria were excluded; The age was 27±3 years; 54 (62.1%) participants were female; 82 (94.25%) were single and 44 (50.6%) were found to have ADHD symptoms.

Conclusions:

the frequency of ADHD symptoms in medical residents of the Internal Medicine postgraduate program at the Centro Médico Nacional-Hospital Nacional in 2024 was high.
