Abstract
BRITEZ-CARLI, Ramiro; INVERNIZZI-MENDOZA, Carlos Rafael and CARDOZO-VERA, Rosa María. Oral paracoccidioidomycosis. Case report. Rev. Inst. Med. Trop. [online]. 2024, vol.19, n.2, pp.80-85. ISSN 1996-3696. https://doi.org/10.18004/imt/2024.19.2.9.
Paracoccidioidomycosis is a pathology present in South America, produced by fungi of the Paracoccidioides species, with a high prevalence in rural working men between 30 and 70 years of age, with habits such as alcoholism and smoking. The lesions produced by this fungus can appear in various parts of the body, including the oral cavity. We present the case of a patient without underlying pathology who came to the clinic due to ulcerated lesions in the oral cavity, circumscribed at the level of the internal commissure of the lip and the internal surface of the right buccal mucosa with a moriform appearance, compatible with paracoccidioidomicosis, which were confirmed after the biopsy. An antifungal treatment was carried out with Itraconazole 400 mg/day for 6 months, then a control was carried out where favorable results were observed for the patient.
