SANCHEZ ZARACHO, Bartolomé y JIMENEZ, Hassel Jimmy. The Digital Pen and the Editorial Challenge: A Transformative Alliance or a Threat to Scientific Integrity?. An. Fac. Cienc. Méd. (Asunción) [online]. 2025, vol.58, n.2, pp.101-104. ISSN 1816-8949. https://doi.org/10.18004/anales/2025.058.02.101.
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in scientific writing and publishing represents a paradigmatic shift that is reshaping how researchers generate and communicate knowledge. This article examines the impact of generative AI on research and editorial processes, highlighting both its potential benefits and ethical challenges. Key advantages include streamlined literature searches, enhanced multilingual writing, and the freeing of time for researchers and editors to focus on critical judgment and creative thinking. However, significant risks also arise, such as AIgiarism and bias amplification, which demand vigilant human oversight. The article underscores the need for clear policies, ethical and methodological training, and a conscious approach to AI use that enhances, rather than replaces, the human scientific voice. It concludes that, when responsibly integrated, the “digital pen” can be a powerful ally-accelerating science while preserving the integrity and passion that define genuine research.
