Abstract

The case of a female diabetic patient treated with insulin is presented, who developed an infected and gangrenous diabetic foot and multiple decompensated concomitant diseases, with a high risk of morbidity and mortality if she undergoes conventional surgery to debride her lesions in the affected limb; in whom a therapy with Lucilia Sericata fly larvae was successfully applied for the first time in Paraguay, with the aim of achieving through these, the complete debridement of her lesions by phagocytosis of the infected and gangrenous tissue, thus achieving remission of the infectious condition and, as a consequence, clinically compensating her concomitant pathologies.
