Severe constipation and other complications of chagasic megacolon were classically of surgical resolution. Several studies were made and many surgical techniques were applied to approach of this pathology. The progressive decrease in the number of patients treated surgically is the result of the application of public health policies that avoid the appearance of new cases and the chronic complications of this entity.
