GARCIA AGUDELO, Lorena et al. A pathology of bizarre symptoms and complicated diagnosis, psoas abscess in pediatrics. A case report. Pediatr. (Asunción) [online]. 2025, vol.52, n.3, pp.243-248. ISSN 1683-9803. https://doi.org/10.31698/ped.52032025013.
Introduction:
A psoas abscess is a lesion that arises from continuity with adjacent foci or from hematogenous or lymphatic dissemination. Its etiology is varied.
Clinical Case Description:
A 6-year-old male patient presented with lower back pain, left hip pain, fever, and antalgic gait. Initially suspected of having septic arthritis of the hip, he was diagnosed with bilateral psoas abscesses via CT scan. He responded favorably to antibiotic therapy for 10 days. It was determined to be of primary origin, and due to its size, percutaneous or surgical drainage was not required.
Discussion:
A psoas abscess should be considered in the differential diagnosis of cases of lower back pain and fever, as timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment can prevent fatal outcomes.
