Abstract

FARINA, Edson Santiago; ZAVALA-SAUCEDO, María Victoria  and  BACKES-DOS SANTOS, Karen Natali. Hierarchization of Tourist Resources in Ñacunday National Park, Paraguay. Rev. ciente. UCSA [online]. 2025, vol.12, n.3, pp.181-196. ISSN 2409-8752.  https://doi.org/10.18004/ucsa/2409-8752/2025.012.03.181.

Tourism policies in Paraguay highlight the potential of the country to develop destinations based on nature and culture, attracting those interested in environmental and social sustainability. This research, with a qualitative approach supported by quantitative data and a descriptive-evaluative scope, aimed to estimate the tourism resources of Ñacunday National Park and its area of influence to identify opportunities for sustainable development. Inventories and standardized criteria established by the World Tourism Organization and the Inter-American Tourism Training Center were applied for data collection and analysis. Eight tourism resources were identified: five natural, including the prominent Ñacunday Falls, and three cultural, such as festivals and indigenous communities. These resources were evaluated based on criteria of attractiveness, accessibility, local support, usage level, fragility, and receptive conditions. Ñacunday Falls proved to be the main tourism resource, complemented by other waterfalls and cultural resources. The study concludes that improving infrastructure, accessibility, and planning is essential to foster a steady flow of visitors and fully utilize these resources. These actions will contribute to the local community's economic and social development and the conservation of natural and cultural heritage, aligning with sustainability goals in tourism.
