Abstract: This study seeks to provide an overview of both the international and national legal frameworks surrounding the crime of genocide. It addresses the issue of its classification as an international crime under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, alongside its national criminalization through Law 2.889/1956. Additionally, it explores the political and doctrinal challenges associated with this classification. A critical approach was employed, utilizing bibliographic research as methodology.
