A nivel global y en la Región de las Américas, la cobertura vacunal ha disminuido, situándose por debajo del 95% recomendado. En Paraguay, las bajas tasas de vacunación, reflejan barreras que comprometen la salud pública.  Objetivo:  Determinar la cobertura, oportunidades perdidas y motivos de no vacunación en niños menores de 5 años en Fernando de la Mora, Paraguay, en 2023.  Metodología:  Estudio descriptivo de corte transversal realizado en 318 niños seleccionados mediante muestreo probabilístico bietápico. Se analizaron coberturas de vacunación para BCG, pentavalente y SPR. Los datos fueron recolectados mediante cuestionarios diseñados en Epi.Info 7.2, registrando variables sociodemográficas, estado de vacunación, cobertura, oportunidad, fuente de información sobre vacunas, motivos de no vacunación, conocimiento, actitudes, prácticas y fuentes de información, analizados con estadística descriptiva como frecuencia y porcentajes.  Resultados:  El 53% de los niños presentó esquemas completos de vacunación. Las coberturas de vacunación fueron altas para BCG (98,43%) y bajas para SPR-2 (37,02%). La oportunidad de vacunación fue completa para BCG, pero disminuyo en SPR-1 (42,01%). Los principales motivos de no vacunación fueron el desconocimiento sobre el esquema (38,9%), creencias erróneas (21,48%) y la falta de tiempo de los padres (21,48%). El 77% de los responsables recibió información sobre vacunación, siendo los medios de comunicación televisivo, radial y prensa escrita las fuentes más frecuentes (42,5%).  Conclusión:  Aunque las coberturas de BCG y las primeras dosis de pentavalente son altas, persiste un descenso marcado en la continuidad de los esquemas y la oportunidad de vacunación. El desconocimiento y las creencias erróneas son las principales barreras identificadas, lo que resalta la necesidad de fortalecer estrategias educativas y de sensibilización para mejorar la cobertura.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  Vaccine-preventable diseases remain one of the main causes of infant mortality, despite advances in immunization. Globally and in the Region of the Americas, vaccination coverage has decreased, falling below the recommended 95%. In Paraguay, low vaccination rates reflect barriers that compromise public health.  Objective:  To determine the coverage, vaccination opportunity, and the main reasons for non-vaccination in children under 5 years of age in Fernando de la Mora, Paraguay, in 2023.  Methodology:  Descriptive cross-sectional study carried out in 318 children selected by two-stage probability sampling. Vaccination coverage for BCG, pentavalent, and MMR were analyzed. Data were collected using questionnaires designed in Epi.Info 7.2, recording sociodemographic variables, vaccination status, coverage, opportunity, source of information on vaccines, reasons for non-vaccination, knowledge, attitudes, practices, and sources of information, analyzed with descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentages.  Results:  53% of children had complete vaccination schedules. Vaccination coverage was high for BCG (98.43%) and low for MMR-2 (37.02%). Vaccination opportunity was complete for BCG, but decreased for MMR-1 (42.01%).
