Los aminoácidos son componentes esenciales para el crecimiento fetal, y sus niveles inadecuados en plasma de cordón umbilical se relacionan con complicaciones como bajo peso al nacer y parto prematuro.  Objetivo:  Analizar la evidencia actual sobre la relación entre el estado nutricional materno, los niveles de aminoácidos en plasma de cordón umbilical y el peso al nacer.  Metodología:  Revisión de literatura en PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane y BVS (2015-2023), utilizando términos como "estado nutricional materno", "aminoácidos", "plasma de cordón umbilical" y "peso al nacer", como parte del proyecto PINV01-67. Se incluyeron estudios que examinaron la relación entre estas variables sin restricciones de idioma.  Resultados:  De 10 estudios analizados, se identificó asociación positiva entre niveles de metionina en cordón umbilical y macrosomía. La deficiencia de vitamina D materna se asoció con alteraciones en perfiles de aminoácidos. La obesidad materna correlacionó con niveles elevados de aminoácidos de cadena ramificada en plasma materno y cordón umbilical. Los recién nacidos con bajo peso presentaron niveles inferiores de aminoácidos esenciales versus aquellos con peso normal.  Conclusiones:  El estado nutricional materno impacta significativamente en los niveles de aminoácidos plasmáticos del cordón umbilical y peso al nacer, con importantes implicaciones para la atención prenatal. Se requieren más investigaciones para desarrollar estrategias efectivas que optimicen el estado nutricional materno y mejoren los resultados neonatales, especialmente en el contexto paraguayo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: Maternal nutritional status decisively influences fetal development and neonatal outcomes. Amino acids are essential components for fetal growth, and inadequate levels in umbilical cord plasma are associated with complications such as low birth weight and premature delivery.  Objective:  To analyze current evidence on the relationship between maternal nutritional status, amino acid levels in umbilical cord plasma, and birth weight.  Methodology:  Literature review in PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane, and BVS (2015-2023), using terms such as "maternal nutritional status," "amino acids," "umbilical cord plasma," and "birth weight," as part of the PINV01-67 project. Studies examining the relationship between these variables were included without language restrictions.  Results:  From 10 analyzed studies, a positive association was identified between methionine levels in umbilical cord and macrosomia. Maternal vitamin D deficiency was associated with alterations in amino acid profiles. Maternal obesity correlated with elevated levels of branched-chain amino acids in maternal and umbilical cord plasma. Low birth weight newborns showed lower levels of essential amino acids compared to those with normal weight.  Conclusions:  Maternal nutritional status significantly impacts umbilical cord plasma amino acid levels and birth weight, with important implications for prenatal care. Further research is needed to develop effective strategies that optimize maternal nutritional status and improve neonatal outcomes, especially in the Paraguayan context.]]></p></abstract>
