La campilobacteriosis (infección por Campylobacter) es la zoonosis de transmisión alimentaria más comúnmente reportada en la mayoría de los países desarrollados y en vías de desarrollo. La principal fuente de infección para los seres humanos es la manipulación y/o consumo de carne de pollo mal cocida. El objetivo de este estudio fue tipificar y evaluar la sensibilidad antimicrobiana de las cepas de Campylobacter spp. a partir de muestras de pollos (hisopado cloacal) de producción intensiva. Se analizaron un total de 480 muestras provenientes de dos granjas ubicadas en el Departamento de Presidente Hayes del Paraguay; de cada granja se muestrearon seis lotes en diferentes días (6 muestreos seriados). Del total de muestras analizadas se obtuvieron 54 muestras positivas (11.25%), confirmadas por cultivo microbiológico y por detección de ADN mediante la técnica dela reacción en cadena de la polimerasa (PCR). Campylobacter jejuni (96%) fue la especie aislada con mayor frecuencia en comparación a C. coli (4%). El 100 % de las cepas aisladas fueron sensibles a la eritromicina y tetraciclina, por el contrario, se observa un 22 % de cepas resistentes a la ciprofloxacina.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT. Campylobacteriosis (Campylobacter infection) is the most commonly reported foodborne zoonosis in most developed and developing countries. The main source of infection for humans is the handling and / or consumption of undercooked chicken meat. The objective of this study was to typify and evaluate the antimicrobial sensitivity of the Campylobacter strains from samples of chickens (cloacal swab) of intensive production. Four hundred and eighty (480) samples from two farms located in the Department of President Hayes of Paraguay were analyzed. Six lots were sampled from each farm on different days (6 serial samplings). Of the total samples analyzed, 54positive samples were obtained (11,25%), confirmed by microbiological culture and by DNA detection using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique. Campylobacter jejuni (96%) was the most frequently isolated species compared to C. coli (4%). One hundred percent (100%) of the isolated strains were sensitive to erythromycin and tetracycline, on the contrary, 22% of strains resistant to ciprofloxacin were observed.]]></p></abstract>
