La Leishmaniasis, entidad nosológica de origen parasitario y de distribución mundial, es considerada zoonótica, ya que afecta a humanos, animales domésticos y salvajes de todo el mundo. La característica más importante de la Leishmaniasis canina es su extraordinario polimorfismo clínico, lo cual dificulta la elección de un buen método laboratorial. Los métodos de diagnóstico disponibles en el país, para la confirmación del diagnóstico clínico son el serológico, el citológico y los moleculares. Los métodos moleculares presentan grandes ventajas, sin embargo debido a su poca utilización en centros de diagnóstico veterinario, y al desconocimiento por la mayoría de los médicos veterinarios, no son implementados como técnicas de diagnóstico de rutina. En países vecinos y otros lugares del mundo está ampliamente difundida y en muchos de los casos es utilizada como prueba base para el diagnóstico de la enfermedad, a través de la detección del DNA parasitario, a partir de biopsias de médula ósea, nódulos linfáticos y demás tejidos. Por ello en el siguiente artículo, tiene como objetivo dar a conocer los métodos moleculares utilizados en el mundo y en nuestro país, con el objetivo de brindar herramientas útiles al Médico Veterinario para llegar al diagnóstico certero y al investigador interesado en conocer aún más sobre la biología del parásito.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT.  Leishmaniasis, a nosological entity of parasitic origin and worldwide distribution, is considered zoonotic, as it affects humans, domestic and wild animals from around the world. The most important characteristic of canine Leishmaniasis is its extraordinary clinical polymorphism, which makes it difficult to choose a good laboratory method. Diagnostic methods available in the country for confirmation of clinical diagnosis are serological, cytological and molecular. Molecular methods have great advantages, however due to their lack of use in veterinary diagnostic centers and the lack of knowledge of most veterinarians, they are not implemented as routine diagnostic techniques. In neighboring countries and elsewhere in the world it is widely disseminated and in many cases is used as a basic test for the diagnosis of the disease, through the detection of parasitic DNA, from bone marrow biopsies, lymph nodes and other Tissues. Therefore, in the following article, the objective is to make known the molecular methods used in the world and in our country, with the objective of providing useful tools to the Veterinarian to arrive at the accurate diagnosis and to the researcher interested in knowing even more about the biology of the parasite.]]></p></abstract>
