En Paraguay no existen estudios previos sobre los tipos polínicos presentes en el aire que guíen la investigación clínica acerca de la etiología de la patología alérgica polínica y orienten su tratamiento.  Objetivo:  Determinar los tipos de pólenes presentes en la atmósfera de Asunción y elaborar un calendario polínico anual.  Materiales y Métodos:  Estudio observacional, transversal y ambispectivo. Los pólenes fueron recolectados diariamente durante el 2018 con un captador volumétrico tipo Hirst, identificados morfológicamente y expresados en granos/m³. Se analizó su relación con parámetros meteorológicos.  Resultados:  En 330 días analizados, se identificaron 48 tipos polínicos, los más frecuentes fueron: Cecropia sp (90%), Poaceae (68%), Urticaceae (60%), Cyperaceae (57%) y Moraceae (42%). Las mayores concentraciones medias anuales fueron de Cecropia sp (33,6 gr/m³), Poaceae (9,6 gr/m³) y Urticaceae (9,3 gr/m³). Se observaron picos de gramíneas en primavera y verano, sobreponiéndose con las curvas de hierbas, en invierno predominan los pólenes de árboles. La temperatura se correlacionó positivamente (r=0,36; p&lt;0,001) y la presión atmosférica negativamente (r=-0,37; p&lt;0,001) con el recuento total de polen.  Conclusiones:  Los pólenes más frecuentes y abundantes en Asunción corresponden a Cecropia sp, Poaceae y Urticaceae, varios de ellos con reconocida capacidad alergénica. Estos resultados permiten confeccionar el primer calendario polínico de Paraguay y contribuir al diagnóstico y manejo de la alergia polínica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  Airborne pollens are a major cause of allergic respiratory diseases. In Paraguay there are no previous studies on the pollen types present in the air that guide clinical research into the etiology of pollen allergic pathology and guide its treatment.  Objective:  To determine the types of pollen present in the atmosphere of Asunción and to develop an annual pollen calendar. Materials and Methods: Observational, longitudinal and ambispective study. Pollens were collected daily during 2018 with a Hirst-type volumetric sampler, morphologically identified and expressed in grains/m³. Their relationship with meteorological parameters was analyzed.  Results:  In 330 days analyzed, 48 pollen types were identified, the most frequent being: Cecropia sp (90%), Poaceae (68%), Urticaceae (60%), Cyperaceae (57%) and Moraceae (42%). The highest annual mean concentrations were Cecropia sp (33.6 gr/m³), Poaceae (9.6 gr/m³) and Urticaceae (9.3 gr/m³). Grass pollen peaks were observed in summer and tree pollen peaks in spring. Temperature was positively correlated (r=0.36; p&lt;0.001) and atmospheric pressure negatively correlated (r=-0.37; p&lt;0.001) with the total pollen count.  Conclusions:  The most frequent and abundant pollens in Asunción correspond to Cecropia sp, Poaceae and Urticaceae, several of them with recognized allergenic capacity. These results allow the first pollen calendar of Paraguay to be compiled and contribute to the diagnosis and management of pollen allergy.]]></p></abstract>
