Objetivo:  Describir el perfil clínico, epidemiológico y microbiológico de candidiasis invasora en recién nacidos del Hospital de la Mujer Dr. Percy Boland Rodríguez, de Bolivia durante el 2023.  Materiales y Métodos:  Estudio observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal, basado en la revisión de historias clínicas y cultivos positivos para Candida spp. en sangre, orina, líquido cefalorraquídeo y otros fluidos corporales, correspondientes al año 2023.  Resultados: La incidencia global de Candidiasis invasora correspondió a 6.7 por cada 1000 nacidos vivos, mayor predominio sobre el género masculino 73%. C. albicans fue la especie con mayor frecuencia. Todos los casos recibieron nutrición parenteral (mediana: 16 días), antibióticos de amplio espectro por más de 12 días, ventilación mecánica invasiva (promedio: 12,6 días), y cateterización central (promedio de veces puesto tres catéteres por paciente). El compromiso abdominal se presentó en el 38% de los casos.  Conclusiones: Existe una considerable incidencia de Candidiasis invasora en un Hospital de referencia nacional de Bolivia. El reconocimiento temprano permite tomar decisiones terapéuticas y/o profilácticas necesarias para evitar complicaciones futuras.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: The incidence of invasive candidiasis varies from region to region, and its presence depends on many associated factors. It is a frequent cause of morbidity and mortality in premature newborns.  Objective: To describe the clinical, epidemiological, and microbiological profile of invasive candidiasis in newborns at the Dr. Percy Boland Rodríguez Women's Hospital in Bolivia during 2023.  Materials and Methods:  This was an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study based on a review of medical records and positive cultures for Candida spp. in blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and other body fluids, corresponding to the year 2023.  Results: The overall incidence of invasive candidiasis was 6.7 per 1000 live births, with a higher prevalence in males (73%). Candida albicans was the most frequently identified species. All cases received parenteral nutrition (median: 16 days), broad-spectrum antibiotics for more than 12 days, invasive mechanical ventilation (average: 12.6 days), and central catheterization (average of three catheters placed per patient). Abdominal involvement was present in 38% of cases.  Conclusions: There is a considerable incidence of invasive candidiasis in a national referral hospital in Bolivia. Early recognition allows for the necessary therapeutic and/or prophylactic decisions to be made to avoid future complications.]]></p></abstract>
