La toxoplasmosis es una enfermedad parasitaria causada por Toxoplasma gondii, que puede tener efectos adversos en la salud de las mujeres, especialmente durante el embarazo. En Bolivia, la prevalencia de esta infección varía según la región y factores sociodemográficos. Objetivo. Determinar la seroprevalencia de Toxoplasma gondii en mujeres del municipio de Vinto, Cochabamba, Bolivia, y analizar los factores asociados a su infección. Materiales y Método. Se llevó a cabo un estudio cuantitativo, descriptivo y de corte transversal en 156 mujeres. Las muestras de sueros fueron analizadas mediante la prueba de Hemaglutinación Indirecta (HAI TOXO POLYCHACO) para detectar anticuerpos IgG contra T. gondii. Para la relación entre la seroprevalencia de toxoplasmosis con los rangos etarios de las mujeres y la convivencia de gatos, se aplicó el test de chi-cuadrado de Pearson. Resultados. De las 156 mujeres, el 42,3% (66 mujeres) presentó anticuerpos IgG positivos para T. gondii. La mayor prevalencia se observó en el rango de 18 a 30 años, aunque no se encontró asociación entre la seropositividad y el rango etario (p = 0,340). Tampoco se observó relación entre la tenencia de gatos y la seropositividad (p = 0,241). Conclusión. Los hallazgos destacan la importancia de realizar estudios adicionales para identificar otros factores asociados a la transmisión y frecuencia de la toxoplasmosis en esta población.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Introduction. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease caused by Toxoplasma gondii, which can have adverse effects on women's health, especially during pregnancy. In Bolivia, the prevalence of this infection varies by region and sociodemographic factors. Objective. To determine the seroprevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in women from the municipality of Vinto, Cochabamba, Bolivia, and to analyze the factors associated with its infection. Materials and Method. A quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study was conducted with 156 women. Serum samples were analyzed using the Indirect Hemagglutination Test (HAI TOXO POLYCHACO) to detect IgG antibodies against Toxoplasma gondii. Pearson&#8217;s chi-square test was applied to assess the relationship between the seroprevalence of toxoplasmosis and the age ranges of the women, as well as cat ownership. Results. Of the 156 women, 42.3% (66 women) tested positive for IgG antibodies against T. gondii. The highest prevalence was observed in the 18-30 age range, although no statistically significant association was found between seropositivity and age range (p = 0.340). Similarly, no significant relationship was found between cat ownership and seropositivity (p = 0.241). Conclusion. The findings emphasize the importance of conducting further studies to identify other factors associated with the transmission and frequency of toxoplasmosis in this population.]]></p></abstract>
