<self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.iics.una.py/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S2617-47312026000100204&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.iics.una.py/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S2617-47312026000100204&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://scielo.iics.una.py/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S2617-47312026000100204&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen: El estudio se llevó a cabo entre 2022 y 2024 en el campo experimental de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias - UNA, en Caazapá, Paraguay, con el objetivo de evaluar el efecto de distintos sistemas de cobertura vegetal sobre las propiedades químicas del suelo y la productividad de maíz y mandioca en condiciones de agricultura familiar. Se compararon cinco tratamientos en un diseño de bloques completos al azar: un control con siembra directa sobre barbecho (SD1) y cuatro sistemas con diferentes combinaciones de abonos verdes de verano e invierno (SD2-SD5). Se analizaron las propiedades químicas del suelo y los parámetros productivos de los cultivos mediante ANAVA (Duncan p &#8804; 0,05). Los resultados indicaron que los abonos verdes aumentaron la materia orgánica, aunque el pH registró una reducción en el SD2 atribuida a la mineralización. Los niveles de fósforo, calcio, magnesio y potasio se mantuvieron bajos en todos los sistemas, evidenciando limitaciones químicas del suelo. En el maíz, las coberturas incrementaron el número de granos por hilera y la productividad, destacándose el SD3 con 5.080 kg/ha. En cuanto a la mandioca, los sistemas con coberturas superaron al control, con rendimientos hasta 16% superiores al SD1. Se concluye que la integración de coberturas vegetales y prácticas de manejo sostenible es clave para maximizar la productividad, conservar el suelo y fortalecer la resiliencia de la agricultura familiar en Caazapá, incrementando los rendimientos hasta un 102,8% en maíz y 16,1% en mandioca en suelos altamente intemperizados.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The study was conducted between 2022 and 2024 at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agrarian Sciences - UNA, in Caazapá, Paraguay, with the objective of evaluating the effect of different cover crop systems on soil chemical properties and the productivity of maize and cassava under family farming conditions. Five treatments were compared in a randomized complete block design: a control with no-tillage over fallow (SD1) and four systems with different combinations of summer and winter green manures (SD2-SD5). Soil chemical properties and crop productivity parameters were analyzed using ANOVA (Duncan p &#8804; 0.05). The results indicated that green manures increased organic matter, although pH showed a reduction in SD2 attributed to mineralization. Phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and potassium levels remained low in all systems, highlighting soil chemical limitations. In maize, cover crops increased the number of grains per row and productivity, with SD3 standing out at 5,080 kg/ha. Regarding cassava, the systems with cover crops outperformed the control, with yields up to 16% higher than SD1. It is concluded that the integration of cover crops and sustainable management practices is key to maximizing productivity, conserving soil, and strengthening the resilience of family farming in Caazapá, increasing yields by up to 102.8% in maize and 16.1% in cassava in highly weathered soils.]]></p></abstract>
