Su recolección es totalmente extractiva de su hábitat natural, actualmente se encuentre en peligro de extinción. Ante esta situación es prioritario realizar estudios sobre su propagación. El objetivo de este experimento fue evaluar el efecto de sustratos y contenedores en la propagación vegetativa de cola de caballo. El experimento se realizó entre los meses de julio a septiembre del 2023, en el Centro Multidisciplinario de Investigaciones Tecnológicas de la Universidad Nacional de Asunción. El diseño experimental utilizado fue completamente al azar con la combinación del factor A correspondió a los sustratos arena lavada 100%, humuz de lombriz 100% y la combinación de humuz y arena al 50% y el factor B a los contenedores con o sin drenajes con 12 repeticiones, totalizando 72 unidades experimentales. Las variables fueron evaluadas a los 45 días después de la implantación se determinó el porcentaje de sobrevivencia, longitud de brotes, número de brotes y raicillas. Los datos fueron sometidos a la prueba no paramétrica de Kruskal Wallis al 5%. Los resultados expresaron que el sustrato arena lavada 100% en contenedores sin drenajes presentaron los mejores promedios en las variables evaluadas, siendo una alternativa para la producción de plantines.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT: Equisetum giganteum L., commonly known as Horsetail, is a medicinal, herbaceous, marsh plant. Its harvesting is entirely from its natural habitat, and it is currently in danger of extinction. Given this situation, it is a priority to conduct studies on its propagation. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of substrates and containers on the vegetative propagation of horsetail. The experiment was carried out between July and September 2023, at the Multidisciplinary Center for Technological Research of the National University of Asunción. The experimental design used was completely randomized with the combination of factor A corresponding to the substrates 100% washed sand, 100% earthworm humus and the combination of humus and sand at 50% and factor B to containers with or without drainage with 12 replications, totaling 72 experimental units. The variables were evaluated 45 days after implantation; the percentage of survival, length of shoots and rootlets, number of shoots and rootlets were determined. The data were subjected to the nonparametric 5% Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that the 100% washed sand substrate in undrained containers had the best averages for the variables evaluated, making it an alternative for seedling production.]]></p></abstract>
