Objetivo: determinar la relación entre hipotiroidismo y el riesgo de desarrollar obesidad y/o dislipidemias en pacientes del ambulatorio de la Primera Cátedra de Clínica Médica del Hospital de Clínicas entre los años 2015 y 2017.  Material y método: diseño de cohortes retrospectivas. Los criterios de inclusión fueron pacientes con diagnóstico probable en la primera consulta de hipotiroidismo y que cuenten con los datos de TSH, FT4, índice de masa corporal y perfil lipídico. Se midieron las variables demográficas, determinaciones de TSH, FT4, perfil lipídico y el índice de masa corporal.  Resultados: se incluyeron en el estudio 246 fichas de pacientes que reunieron los criterios de inclusión, el 80,1% fueron mujeres, la edad media fue 47±3,6 años y en 19% se encontró hipotiroidismo. La dislipidemia más frecuente fue la hipercolesterolemia y la obesidad se presentó sobre todo en mujeres. El hipotiroidismo se asoció para el desarrollo de la dislipidemia en forma significativa (RR 1,7; p 0,009) en comparación con la población eutiroidea, y no se encontró asociación con la presencia la obesidad (RR 1; p 0,960).  Conclusión: los pacientes con hipotiroidismo presentan mayor riesgo de tener dislipidemias. El hipotiroidismo no se asoció con la presencia de obesidad.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction: Hypothyroidism is associated with increased cardiovascular risk, dyslipidemia, overweight and obesity.  Objective:  To determine the relationship between hypothyroidism and the risk of developing obesity and/or dyslipidemia in patients of the outpatient clinic of the First Chair of Medical Clinic of Hospital de Clínicas between 2015 and 2017.  Material and method: Design of retrospective cohorts. The inclusion criteria were patients with a probable diagnosis in the first consultation of hypothyroidism and who had data on TSH, FT4, body mass index and lipid profile. Demographic variables, TSH, FT4, lipid profile, and body mass index were measured.  Results: Files of two hundred and forty-six patients that met the inclusion criteria were included in the study, 80.1% was women, the mean age was 47±3.6 years, and 19% had hypothyroidism. The most frequent dyslipidemia was hypercholesterolemia and obesity occurred mainly in women. Hypothyroidism was significantly associated with the development of dyslipidemia (RR 1.7; p 0.009) compared to the euthyroid population, and no association was found with the presence of obesity (RR 1; p 0.960).  Conclusion: Patients with hypothyroidism are at higher risk of having dyslipidemia. Hypothyroidism was not associated with the presence of obesity.]]></p></abstract>
