Objetivo: Estratificar el riesgo probable del desarrollo de diabetes mellitus 2 en los próximos 10 años, en estudiantes, docentes y funcionarios de la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad Nacional de Asunción.  Materiales y métodos:  Estudio observacional descriptivo, utilizando la escala validada de FINDRISK a través de un cuestionario electrónico. Fueron incluidos estudiantes, docentes y funcionarios de la Institución en el año 2021 y excluidos aquellos con diagnóstico conocido de diabetes mellitus y mujeres embarazadas.  Resultados:  Participaron 304 encuestados, 82,00 % fue del sexo femenino. Una mayor proporción de hombres presentó un valor de Índice de Masa Corporal entre 25 y 30 comparando con las mujeres (p&lt; 0,001). Los hombres comen menos cantidad de frutas y verduras diariamente (p = 0,048). El 70,70 % de los participantes tiene algún familiar con diabetes diagnosticada. Los hombres (p = 0,017) y los mayores de 35 años (p &lt; 0,001) presentaron riesgo superior de presentar diabetes. El 13,80 % del total presentó riesgo alto y el 0,90 % riesgo muy alto de desarrollar diabetes.  Conclusión:  Los hombres y mayores de 35 años presentaron mayor riesgo de desarrollar diabetes en los próximos 10 años según la prueba de FINDRISK. Independiente de la edad y el sexo, más del 20 % de los participantes tiene riesgo de moderado a muy alto de desarrollarla en los próximos 10 años.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Introduction:  Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease whose prevalence is on the rise as obesity and poor eating habits increase.  Aim: To stratify the probable risk of the development of Type 2 diabetes in the next 10 years, in students, teachers and officials of the School of Dentistry of the National University of Asunción.  Materials and methods:  Descriptive observational study, using the validated FINDRISK scale through an electronic questionnaire. Students, teachers and officials of the Institutions in the year 2021 were included. Subjects with a known diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes and pregnant women were excluded.  Results:  304 respondents participated, 82.00 % were female. A higher proportion of men presented a Body Mass Index value between 25 and 30 compared to women (p&lt;0.001). Men eat fewer fruits and vegetables daily (p = 0.048). 70.70 % of the participants have a relative with diagnosed diabetes. Men (p = 0.017) and those older than 35 years (p &lt; 0.001) had a higher risk of developing diabetes. 13.80 % of the total presented high risk and 0.90 % very high risk of developing diabetes.  Conclusion:  Men and those over 35 years of age had a higher risk of developing diabetes in the next 10 years according to the FINDRISK test. Regardless of age and gender, more than 20 % of participants have a moderate to very high risk of developing it in the next 10 years.]]></p></abstract>
