Cada día, más de un millón de personas contraen una ITS. En Paraguay, una de cada veinticinco personas padece una ITS.  Objetivo:  Establecer la prevalencia y determinar los agentes patógenos más frecuentes en las ITS diagnosticadas por el método de reacción en cadena de la polimerasa-multiplex, en una muestra de orina de pacientes en el año 2019.  Métodos:  Diseño de tipo transversal de prevalencia, estudiando las variables edad y presencia de ITS en 648 pacientes. Fue utilizada la base de datos del laboratorio Díaz Gill de muestras de orina procesadas, utilizando técnicas de diagnóstico molecular. El análisis estadístico descriptivo se hizo utilizando el software Microsoft Excel&#9415;.  Resultados:  La prevalencia de infecciones transmisión sexual en 648 pacientes fue de 80,4%, causada por uno de los 11 patógenos analizados. En todos los grupos, los patógenos gardnerella vaginalis, ureaplasma parvum y candida albicans fueron los más comunes. No se observó una diferencia significativa entre los grupos etarios.  Conclusión:  Existe una alta prevalencia de infecciones de transmisión sexual en esta muestra, donde los agentes causales más frecuentes de las infecciones de transmisión sexual fueron gardnerella vaginalis, ureaplasma parvum y candida albicans.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT   Introduction:  Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) can be caused by bacteria, parasites, viruses and fungi. Every day, more than a million people contract an STI. In Paraguay, one in twenty-five people suffers from STIs.  Objective:  Establish the prevalence and determine the most frequent pathogens in STIs diagnosed by the multiplex polymerase chain reaction method, in a urine sample of patients in 2019.  Methods:  Cross-sectional prevalence design, studying the variables age and presence of STIs in 648 patients. The database of the Díaz Gill laboratory of processed urine samples was used, using molecular diagnostic techniques. Descriptive statistical analysis was done using Microsoft Excel&#9415; software.  Results: The prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in 648 patients was 80.4%, caused by one of the 11 pathogens analyzed. In all groups, the pathogens gardnerella vaginalis, ureaplasma parvum, and candida albicans were the most common. There was no significant difference between the age groups.  Conclusion:  There is a high prevalence of sexually transmitted infections in this sample, where the most frequent causative agents of sexually transmitted infections were gardnerella vaginalis, ureaplasma parvum, and candida albicans.]]></p></abstract>
