Sin embargo, si se utiliza inadecuadamente, puede ser una fuente de contaminación microbiológica. Este estudio se llevó a cabo para determinar la carga microbiana de bacterias, hongos y levaduras presentes en las batas de los técnicos de un centro de investigación de la Universidad Nacional de Asunción. Se realizó una encuesta a 12 personas que trabajan en ese centro y se tomaron muestras de los bolsillos, el antebrazo y la parte baja de la espalda de sus batas para el recuento de colonias con un contador de colonias manual. El estudio reveló que el mayor promedio de unidades formadoras de colonias a las 48 h se dio en el rango etario de 50 años. En cuanto al lugar en donde guardan las batas, el 67% de los participantes indicó que la dejan colgada en el perchero del laboratorio, 17% en su automóvil, 8% en el armario de su hogar y 8% en su cartera, siendo la mediana de UFC en las batas guardadas en auto de 84, la mayor. En conclusión, las batas de los técnicos están muy contaminadas y las prácticas adecuadas de mantenimiento y manipulación se deben aplicar para minimizar la contaminación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The lab coat is a protective element for people who work in health and research that separates them from pollutants. However, if used improperly, it can be a source of microbiological contamination. This study was carried out to determine the microbial load of bacteria, fungi and yeasts present in the coats of the technicians of a research center of the National University of Asunción. Twelve people working at the center were surveyed and samples were taken from the pockets, forearm, and lower back of their gowns for colony counting with a manual colony counter. The study revealed that the highest average number of colony-forming units at 48 h occurred in the 50-year age range. Regarding the place where they keep their gowns, 67% of the participants indicated that they leave them hanging on the laboratory coat rack, 17% in their car, 8% in their home closet and 8% in their purse, being the median CFU in car stowed gowns of 84, the highest. In conclusion, technician coats are heavily contaminated and proper maintenance and handling practices must be applied to minimize contamination.]]></p></abstract>
