The appearance of the new strain of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has strongly impacted at a global, regional and national level, in different fields, among them the research field. It has motivated that scientists from different areas join efforts and capacities to discover, redesign and implement different combat mechanisms for either the prevention, treatment and/or prophylaxis of this emergent disease.

Researchers from Utrecht University, Erasmus Medical Centre and Harbour BioMed (HBM) identified a human monoclonal antibody that prevents the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) virus from infecting cultivated cells, which is the first step tEo develop a treatment against the disease 1.

At national level, several investigations are under development in relation to COVID-19 disease. This is evidenced by the number of applications submitted under the call made by the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACYT) for "Research projects in the context of the COVID-19 Pandemic" where 129 projects were presented, covering different areas, including the area of medical sciences and health, natural and exact sciences, social sciences and engineering and technology 2.

Likewise, a research team made up by CONACYT, the Paraguayan Association of Researchers and the Scientific Society will carry out experimentation techniques with the active principle hydroxychloroquine, for which the professionals will use the target staff as a field of study (group most exposed to the contagion) to test its function as a preventive medicine 3.

At the National University of Asunción, a multidisciplinary team of professionals (medical therapists and intensivists, anesthesiologists, engineers and veterinarians) is working on a pulmonary ventilator for later use in patients with respiratory insufficiencies in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with the support of private sector companies 4.

The result of each investigation will represent a contribution to the scientific community to finally achieve the control and prevention of this disease that keeps the whole world in distress
