Abstract

BATTILANA AMARILLA, Nidia  and  LOPEZ CRISTALDO, Sara Raquel. Cultural patterns and violence against adolescents in the department of Alto Paraná, Paraguay during 2020-2021. Rev. cient. cienc. soc. [online]. 2023, vol.5, n.2, pp.36-47. ISSN 2708-0412.  https://doi.org/10.53732/rccsociales/05.02.2023.36.

The study sought to understand the cultural patterns of violence against adolescents in the Alto Paraná department of Paraguay, during the years 2020 - 2021. The research was qualitative, cross-sectional, and exploratory-descriptive. A total of 32 interviews (21 individual and 11 group) were conducted with key informants, consisting of adult leaders, institutional representatives, and adolescents (boys and girls) intentionally in 2021. The cultural patterns were investigated by applying the dimensions of parenting patterns and violence against women. The responses generally differ according to actors and according to the position they occupy in the community. The main findings are summarized in the presence of adult-centered relationships in community living spaces; the acceptance of physical punishment as a form of family discipline and naturalized conflict resolution in the parenting process; while physical violence is not accepted among adolescents and adult women.

Keywords : culture; violence; women; adolescence; parenting; Paraguay.
