The objective of this research work is to define the necessary requirements to transform the City of Hernandarias and the Itaipú Tourist Complex, Paraguayan side, as smart tourist destinations (DTI). It was based on a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional approach with an exploratory scope. The Hernandarias urban center and the Tourist Complex were taken as the unit of analysis, in order to gather information regarding their potential and compliance with the action proposals required in a DTI. The instrument used was a Check list of 15 attributes with a total of 44 criteria, distributed in 6 action proposals (AP), yielding the main results: 92% compliance with PA2 (Technological developments applied to Mobility and Urbanism) in the complex and 78% in the city. Likewise, 0% in compliance with PA5 (Technological developments applied to Public Safety) in the complex and 11% in PA6 (Technological developments applied to Health) in the city respectively. It is concluded that 100% compliance with the PAs has not yet been achieved, so it is recommended to generate joint government-binational-private sector actions so that this destination is fully considered as a DTI.
