The objective is to analyze the didactic models for the identification of the investigative competence in the profile of the university teacher. A quantitative approach was used, a non-experimental design with a cross-sectional and descriptive scope. The population was made up of 60 professors from the business administration career, night shift, in seven different areas of knowledge (English, research methodology, administration, accounting, mathematics and logic, economics and marketing and commerce) from a public university of the Paraguay in 2013. The sampling used was stratified probabilistic, 16 teachers were surveyed using a semi-structured questionnaire in 16 questions (open and closed). The most relevant results were: 80% of teachers permanently use conceptualization as a teaching-learning process, 73.4% apply practical work frequently with their students, the big problem that the teachers sometimes find in students is the disinterest 64% and 50% of the teachers do not have academic or scientific productions. It is concluded that university teachers continue to implement the didactic models of the traditionalist current, where the development of reflective critical thinking is not evidenced in the XXI century teacher, thus leading to the non-use of the scientific method for the achievement of competences investigative.
