Abstract

CHAP-KAU, Kwan Chung. Strategies implemented in wholesale tourism operators in Asunción to face the COVID-19 pandemic. Rev. cient. cienc. soc. [online]. 2021, vol.3, n.2, pp.20-27. ISSN 2708-0412.  https://doi.org/10.53732/rccsociales/03.02.2021.20.

The objective of the research is to determine the strategies implemented by Asunción's wholesale tourism operators in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was focused on a qualitative, non-experimental study with a transactional and descriptive cut. Interviews were applied to two operational managers and three owners of 10 wholesale tourism operators in July 2020, via Zoom. The sampling applied was for convenience, providing an instrument in two aspects, basic information and seven open questions. The inclusion criteria were: wholesale passenger car operators located in Asunción, active and in operation according to SENATUR. The most relevant results were: the companies implemented strategies such as home-office work, cost reduction, development of new products and commercialization of special flights and bubble flights during the health crisis and they still could not pay the basic costs or reach the point of Balance. It was concluded that the implementation of these strategies would be possible if local governments, together with service providers and intermediaries, make the effort to certify safe and quality trips, and the ability of operators to turn their sales strategies to domestic tourism.
