Abstract

Introduction: Epidemiology of COVID 19 indicates that death is higher in older adults, men die and are more vulnerable than women. This study was conducted with the purpose of describing Costa Rica´s COVID 19 epidemiology. Methodology: Descriptive tables of Covid 19 cases were made according with variables like time, place and person. The relationship total cases, deceased, active and recovered cases was established with the statistics, Z test, correlation coefficient and p value. Results: As of December 2020, there were 166 700 cases, 2 153 deaths (higher proportion in men), 130 989 recovered and 33 654 actives. Deceased average age was 70.7 years. Most of the cases occurred in San José province. The first case occurred in March 2020 and a greater progression of cases began since June 15. Conclusion: Comparing COVID 19 epidemiology in Costa Rica with other countries, similarity of results can be indicated.
