Introduction. Studies on the global burden of disease have broadly characterized the burden of serious infections on infant mortality in low-income countries. Knowledge about morbidity has great implications in global health systems, interventions that protect children and promote maximum realization of their potential can improve cognitive and emotional development and boost educational achievement. Objective. To identify pediatric morbidity and mortality in a reference hospital in Paraguay in a population of 2315 pediatric patients in 2018 according to the database provided by the department of Statistics. Methodology. The variables were CIE 10 diagnostic groups, age, sex, days of hospitalization and outcome. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics. Regarding to morbidity, 19.9% corresponded to the chapter of IDS 10 of respiratory system diseases, 16.2% symptom, signs and morbid states poorly defined, 15% infectious and parasitizing diseases and 11.5% surgical causes, representing 62.6% of the causes of hospitalization in these groups. Diseases of the respiratory system had a seasonal behavior as they increased in the months of June, July, August and October. Most of them were under the age of 5 and the mortality in this sample was 0.34%. Conclusion. The main cause of morbidity was diseases of the respiratory system with a seasonal behavior, infectious and parasitic diseases have a constant behavior during the year.
