The objective of the work was to evaluate the viability of Toxoplasma gondii parasites of the RH strain cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen for 1 and 5 months with two cryopreservants: glycerol 10% and dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) 1.25%, 12.5% and 25%. %, to have an effective method of storage of tachyzoites for long periods of time. One mouse was thawed and inoculated for each concentration of cryopreservant. The control used were tachyzoites maintained in albino mice. The number of parasites at the beginning was less than control and this was increasing in the successive passages. Both Glycerol and DMSO presented similar behaviors, however with DMSO at concentrations of 12.5 and 25%, a greater number of parasites / mL was observed in the months evaluated. The different concentrations tested are effective and do not alter the viability of parasites of T. gondii strain RH cryopreserved for 1 and 5 months.
