GALEANO, María del Carmen; KERLING, Nicole; BAGNOLI, Laura and GONZALEZ, Hugo. Critical Thinking in middle level students: Comparative study between two pedagogical models. Rev. Soc. cient. Parag. [online]. 2023, vol.28, n.1, pp.141-155. ISSN 2617-4731. https://doi.org/10.32480/rscp.2023.28.1.141.
Abstract: The present research consisted of comparing the levels of Critical Thinking (CT) with a quantitative approach with a descriptive and cross-sectional design, in private schools with different methodologies, one with a Traditional Pedagogical Model (TM) and the other with a Pedagogical Model based on Teaching for Comprehension (PMTC), which uses constructivist strategies in the classroom. The sample consisted of 138 students between the ages of 15 and 18 of the Secondary Level, randomly selected; Thus, 69 participants of each model. The instrument used for the measurement was the Critical Thinking Test - Watson Glaser in its Spanish version. The results indicate significant differences in the five factor dimensions: inferences, assumptions, deductions, interpretation of the information and analysis of arguments, with a possibility of 5% of admissible error, where the PMTC students performed better. It is recommended to include in the programs of educational institutions the development of CT skills, based on the PMTC.
