Abstract: Risk is defined as the product of chance and vulnerability. It is related to the probability of a negative event, such as drought and the foreseeable consequences of the occurrence of the event. From the perspective of agriculture, the most common climate threat is drought that; Seen on a global scale, it has major repercussions similar to cyclones, floods and storms. The objective of this research is to generate an innovative strategy to mitigate the risk of drought, using the solid rain method and the sustainability of the agricultural sector in the highlands of the Guaranda canton. The methodology of the study is participatory action, through the creation of focus groups led by farmers in the province of Guaranda. The results indicate that the corn (Zea mays) and potato (Solanum tuberosum) crops had superior behavior and homogeneity when absorbing the water stored in the polymer called solid rain, in the cultivation of Solanum tuberosum the solid rain field had a tuber weight of 0.95Kg and in control field fie of 0.92%, the Zea mays the harvest was 175 DDS in solid rain field and 196 DDS in control field. The size, thickness and weight of the cultures; demonstrate how effective and stable this technology is on the different phenological stages of the crop. The conclusions show that solid rain technology represents a novel alternative for farmers, especially in sectors where drought is present as a disturbing factor in the cultivation process. It is important to highlight, the previous studies that must be carried out, to achieve the maximum benefit of the polymer.
