Abstract

NUNEZ, Jesús  and  MOLINA, Jorge. Measurement of the angular distribution of muons on the earth’s surface. Rev. Soc. cient. Parag. [online]. 2019, vol.24, n.2, pp.238-248. ISSN 2617-4731.  https://doi.org/10.32480/rscp.2019-24-2.238-248.

In this work we show the measurements of the muon flux and its angular distributions made with a muon telescope composed of plastic scintillators read by silicon photomultiplier detectors (SiPM). We also verified that the energy deposited by muons agrees with the curve proposed by Landau for charged particles. Finally, we compare the results with the measurements made with the experiment GRAPES-3, and find that the flux in Asuncion is around 2 times higher due to the effects of the South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly.

Keywords : SiPM; muon flux; cosmic rays; South Atlantic Magnetic Anomaly (SAMA)..
