Abstract

VILLALBA-ARIAS, Jorge et al. Psychiatric and psychopathological assessment in the context of the kidney transplantation. Med. clín. soc. [online]. 2020, vol.4, n.1, pp.33-40. ISSN 2521-2281.  https://doi.org/10.52379/mcs.v4i1.123.

Assessment by a psychiatrist, preferably with experience in this particular area, is essential in all kidney trans-plant recipient protocols, in order to rule out serious mental illness (which is an absolute contraindication to performing a kidney transplant). In the assessment of the level and nature of the candidate's mental health and psychopathology, a series of aspects are included: the emotional and affective dimension, the level of abstraction and ability to think, the capacities for relationship and communication with others and with oneself, the possibilities of an adequate adaptation to the environment, the level of introjection of ethical values, the motivation for personal development and the preservation of life. This review article briefly presents concepts related to psychiatric and psychopathological assessment in the context of kidney transplantation.

Keywords : Kidney transplant; Assessment; Psychiatry; Psychopathology.
