Motivation and satisfaction with studies are two fundamental variables in the process of choosing a career, so the objective of this research was to determine if there is a relationship between the types of motivation and satisfaction with the chosen profession, in addition to establishing a difference between levels of study and gender; For this, a quantitative research approach with a descriptive-correlational scope, group differences and a non-experimental-cross-sectional design was used. The instruments used to collect data were the Satisfaction with the Profession Chosen Scale, and the Motivation Questionnaire to Study Psychology (MOPI). The sample calculated using the formula was 213 students from the Clinical Psychology Career of the Universidad Técnica de Machala. The main results show that there is no significant relationship between the types of motivation and the levels of satisfaction presented by the students, in addition, there are no statistically significant differences between motivations according to gender or levels of study, except in intrinsic motivation of knowledge that is greater in the students of the first four levels, with respect to the upper semesters.

Palabras clave : motivation; satisfaction; psychology; gender.
